About the Alliance |
On May 30, 2002, a draft of the revitalization plan was presented at a public meeting attended by more than 100 community members. Following a formal presentation of the plan by Peter Drey, members of the audience asked a wide variety of questions about the proposed plan and what the next steps would entail. Attendees enthusiastically endorsed the plan and encouraged the AIEV board to move forward with the revitalization of Emory Village. The final version of the Emory Village Revitalization Plan was approved by the Alliance to Improve Emory Village board at its November board meeting. The next steps in the revitalization of Emory Village include testing the feasibility of the road diet and roundabout to determine the implicatons upon traffic congestion, cut-through traffic, pedestrian safety and convenience to the community; preparation of a zoning overlay for Emory Village that will permit mixed-use developments and the kinds of development proposed in the revitalization plan; attain Livable Center designation from the Atlanta Regional Commission to become eligible for implementation funding; and raise additional financial resources to test the road diet and implement public improvements. Throughout this process, AIEV will continue to involve Druid Hills residents, Emory University, Clifton Corridor institutions and DeKalb County officials in the planning processes. |
